Due to the variety of requests we receive from our clients, we cannot but maintain different operating systems both on PC and Mac platforms for software testing purposes, as well as to capture localized screenshots and to check installation and setup procedures described in the documentation. This allows us to pinpoint mismatches between the documentation and the software and sometimes detect bugs in the application itself. This is very much appreciated by our clients, as we perform a double-check on their source documentation and software and can help them locate inconsistencies before the product is released.
Technology is on our side...
Productivity tools include computer-aided translation programs (Trados Workbench, Déjà Vu, IBM Translation Manager/2, RC-WinTrans, Alchemy Catalyst). RC-WinTrans and Alchemy Catalyst can be used to check and resize GUI dialog boxes if not all project resources are provided; otherwise Visual C++ can also be used. For Win and HTML help/Web content compilation, RoboHelp and RoboHTML are both available and for testing purposes HelpQA can be used to check for any mismatch between source and target files.
